Dear Professional Fisherman,
The SODENA Company, a division of the IxMarine group, the leader of high technology in the maritime field, has further enhanced its technological investments to satisfy its loyal customer base in the fishing world.
In the light of the new economic and regulatory challenges, both present and future,
SODENA has launched a wide-ranging project to analyse the problems faced by the main fishing concerns. Its work, which is strongly influenced by its participation in the "Sea Centre†regional programmes (Brittany and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions) to optimize fishing methods (Itis, Optipêche, Siad, etc.), has enabled SODENA to concentrate its R&D capacities on the major themes of "sustainable†fishing.
Backed up by the group’s development strengths, the reputation of its leading products, (the Gecdis software equips 80% of the worldwide fleet of seine net tuna boats), and the collaboration of specialized industrial partners, as from autumn 2008 SODENA is marketing a full chain for processing and combining information on board, from fish detection to marketing…
The crews can now rely on a global information network that handles the 5 basic stages of the activities:
- Detection of the underwater environment and fish stocks,
- Monitoring navigation, checking the fish as they approach the catching equipment,
- Control and optimization of the catching equipment,
- Operational, commercial and administrative management of the catches,
- Fishing/Sea depth database and statistical analyses.
This approach opens up major opportunities for enhanced productivity, while meeting the requirements as to preventing stock depletion. Greater selectivity in catches and improved values, linked to shorter periods at sea and lower energy consumption levels, are bound to help fishing concerns to regain long-term economic balance in their professional activities.
With this in mind, SODENA provides a new concept of specialized systems that merge their data via a dedicated onboard network.
